Murray Braaten graduated with distinction from the University of Regina with a Bachelor of Business Administration (corporate finance and personnel administration) and from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Laws, both in 1980. He was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 1981, and joined Lando & Company LLP in 1982. He became a partner of Lando and Company LLP in 1983 and has been the managing partner since 1987.

During his practice, Mr. Braaten has developed particular expertise in the areas of real estate development, resort development, financing, restructuring, foreclosure and realization law. Mr. Braaten has participated as a instructor and guest lecturer for both the Canadian Bar Association and the Continuing Legal Education program. He has served as a member of the special committee of the Canadian Bar Association that reviewed foreclosure practice.

In addition to his practice, Mr. Braaten is involved in numerous business, sporting and community activities. He has worked as a board member for the Salvation Army's annual Red Shield Appeal and the Friends of the Environment Foundation. He is and has been a director of numerous public and private companies and is involved in many community activities.
